SHANI DAVIS AND BKB TEAM UP FOR OLYMPIC DREAM
Dutch campaigning agency BKB to sponsor US speed skater Shani Davis
Dutch campaigning agency BKB today announced its decision to sponsor US speed skater and reigning Olympic champion Shani Davis. BKB directors describe the decision as ‘a childhood dream come true.’ The sponsorship deal has been closed for the Olympic season 2009–2010. Shani Davis, tipped to win multiple medals at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, and BKB make a perfect partnership.
‘Davis is an extremely committed and talented sportsman, a unique and powerful personality in the world of speed skating,’ says BKB director Alex Klusman. BKB feels strongly connected to Davis’s unconventional style both on and off the track. ‘Shani follows his own unique path, he is authentic and progressive, and an inspiring example to us all,’ Klusman adds.
BKB, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is an agency specialised in campaigning. It has an international orientation, and is also active in South Africa and Bosnia. BKB develops campaigns for government, businesses and NGOs and advises on anything from business communication and internal change processes to image management. The bureau also organises a range of trainings and leads debates.
It is the first time BKB sponsors sporting activity. BKB has sponsored several other events in the past, notably the visit of the Dalai Lama to the Netherlands, the album launch of the Dutch singer Wende Snijders and the theatre show Claus! by Dutch director and member of parliament John Leerdam. BKB also works on social campaigns for clients such as the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, the World Wildlife Fund, rock festival Lowlands, and producer and musician Junkie XL.
BKB’s sponsorship of Shani Davis fits neatly in the company’s philosophy to connect different worlds together. ‘BKB has an extensive network in politics, society, music, culture and literature. By sponsoring Davis we can now also connect to the world of
sports,’ says BKB director Erik van Bruggen.
But in the first place the BKB-Shani sponsorship deal fulfils an old wish of the company. ‘Ever since the rise of Eric Heiden we have been glued to our TV sets in the skating season. Sponsoring Shani makes one of our childhood dreams come true. We wish Shani an extremely successful skating season,’ say directors Alex Klusman and Erik van Bruggen.
